Who we are?
Paranjyothi Foundation is a non-profit organisation striving to transform education in rural Karnataka. We believe in strengthening the basic foundation in education for every child. The foundation is founded by Sri. M.L. Varchusvin S.S. Raje Urs and Smt. Sushma Gubbi Vani and is wholly supported by Sri. Manteswamy Matha, Malavalli.
Manteswamy Matha is a socio-religious institution established by a revolutionary saint Dharmaguru Manteswamy in the 16th Century and Sri. Varchusvin is the current Mathadhipathi of the institution. The matha is based on the strong principles of public service. It has a large devotee base in rural areas of Karnataka and is making efforts to bring a positive transformation in their lives.
The matha believes that education is a catalyst for creating a better tomorrow and a conducive environment in our rural communities, which would in turn translate into empowering not only our nation but also the world at large, which in the words of Manteswamy is ‘Loka Kalyana’ (Universal Betterment).

Seeds of Change
We believe Loka Kalyana can be achieved, only by heralding a positive change in the community we live in; and education plays the pivotal role in bringing out this positive change. Over the years the Matha had been approached by various individuals and groups of devotees with a request to start an educational institution to cater to the needs of the vast devotee base, however after much deliberation, research & discussions we realised that maximum benefit can reach the people if we partner with the existing public education system rather than reinventing the entire gamut of education.
The Matha initially sponsored other NGO’s with similar objectives (Gnanavi Rural Development Trust) & in May 2017 took up the mantel by establishing Sri. Manteswamy Education and Rural Development Trust (SMERDT).
Thus SMERDT was born.
In 2023, SMERDT was renamed as ‘Paranjyothi Foundation’
